The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, on Sunday, formally adopted President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as its sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement took place during an APC stakeholders’ meeting held at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, attended by top party leaders, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, and local government chairmen across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Conspicuously absent, however, was former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, whose loyalists were recently suspended amid internal wranglings over the party’s grassroots control.

The motion for the adoption was moved by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and seconded by former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei.

Keyamo lauded President Tinubu for what he described as “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” particularly citing the removal of fuel subsidy as a responsible fiscal policy that redirected resources to key infrastructure projects.

“Just two days ago, Mr. President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of Warri Port, among other projects. These are direct benefits of subsidy savings,” Keyamo stated.

He also commended Governor Oborevwori for his infrastructural strides and inclusive governance, calling him “a leader with vision and commitment to Delta’s growth.”

In his remarks, Oborevwori expressed gratitude to party leaders for the confidence reposed in him and the President, promising to sustain his development agenda in the state.

“I want to thank you for the confidence reposed in us and for accepting us as sole candidates in 2027. The APC is growing stronger by the day because more governors will join us before the end of November,” Oborevwori said.

The governor also issued a stern warning to party members, stressing that loyalty would be the determining factor in future rewards.

“Some in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded, not hypocrisy,” he declared.

Also speaking, former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa described the April 2025 mass defection of former PDP members into the APC as “a turning point in Delta’s political history.”

“Today, I can confidently say joining the APC was the right step in the right direction. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa said.

In his welcome address, APC State Chairman, Omeni Sobotie, hailed Oborevwori’s performance, describing the party under his leadership as “formidable and unstoppable.”

“Anyone planning to contest against the governor in 2027 will meet a brick wall,” Sobotie asserted.
