Yuletide: Ogun FRSC Rolls Out 2,089 Personnel, 32 Patrol Vehicles

The Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,089 personnel and logistics across the state to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce road crashes during the festive season.

The deployment, which includes 1,015 regular and 1,074 special marshals, as well as 32 patrol vehicles, six motorcycles, three ambulances and two tow trucks, was disclosed in a statement on Tuesday by the sector command spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi-Oyewole.

According to the statement, the deployment is in line with the FRSC’s nationwide Operation Zero Tolerance to Road Traffic Crashes, aimed at enhancing road safety and ensuring free movement of motorists and travellers during the yuletide.

Odunsi-Oyewole said the command remains committed to safe motoring during the festive period and beyond, noting that personnel and equipment have been positioned along major corridors across the state to promptly respond to emergencies and enforce traffic regulations.

He added that the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, has cautioned motorists against distracted driving and speeding, which he described as a major cause of road crashes.

Fasakin warned that drivers who exceed the legal speed limit would be apprehended and sanctioned in accordance with the law, stressing that safety must be prioritised as “it is only the living that can celebrate.”

The sector commander also noted that the command had commenced a special enforcement operation targeting speeding and other dangerous driving behaviours, particularly during the festive season.

As part of the operation, FRSC operatives recently apprehended 16 motorists for speeding along the Sagamu–Abeokuta Road using laser radar equipment. The offenders were booked for traffic violations, while speed limit devices were installed in their vehicles.

The FRSC said the ongoing operation is aimed at achieving a 10 per cent reduction in road crashes in Ogun State, most of which are linked to overspeeding.
