Yuletide Alert: FRSC Steps Up Patrols on Major Highways Nationwide

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified nationwide highway monitoring as part of its end-of-year operations aimed at ensuring safe and free movement during the festive season.

The Corps’ spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, noting that the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, personally conducted on-the-spot assessments along key corridors, including the Abuja–Lokoja highway and major routes in Kaduna State.

According to the statement, the Corps Marshal’s earlier monitoring of the Abuja–Lokoja highway led to the immediate deployment of additional personnel to ease traffic congestion and restore free flow.

“As part of the end-of-year nationwide monitoring of highways, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, extended his on-the-spot assessment to Kaduna, following his earlier personal monitoring of the Abuja–Lokoja highway, which led to the immediate deployment of additional personnel to clear traffic and restore free flow,” Ogungbemide said.

He added that in Kaduna, Mohammed on Monday directly supervised traffic operations to ensure strict compliance with road safety regulations. Enforcement teams, he said, intensified surveillance across major routes, resulting in the apprehension of several overloaded vehicles and other traffic violators.

Ogungbemide explained that the extended monitoring reflected the Corps Marshal’s hands-on leadership and zero-tolerance stance against traffic infractions, particularly during periods of increased travel associated with the festive season.

The FRSC spokesperson urged motorists to cooperate with officers and adhere strictly to traffic rules, including avoiding overloading, to reduce road crashes and save lives.

The end-of-year period typically witnesses a surge in vehicular movement as Nigerians travel to celebrate with family and participate in festive activities, often leading to increased traffic congestion and road accidents. In response, the FRSC has deployed special nationwide patrols, intensified public sensitisation campaigns, and reinforced enforcement measures to promote safer use of highways across the country.
