Trump Claims US Airstrikes on Terrorists in Nigeria

The United States President Donald J. Trump on Friday claimed that U.S. forces carried out what he described as a “powerful and deadly” military strike against ISIS elements operating in northwest Nigeria.

In a statement released on his Facebook page Friday, Trump said the operation was ordered by him in his capacity as Commander in Chief and targeted ISIS fighters he accused of attacking and killing civilians, particularly Christians, in the region.

He alleged that the terrorist groups had been responsible for violence “at levels not seen for many years.”

Trump said the strikes were executed by the U.S. Department of Defense, which he referred to as the “Department of War,” and described the operation as a series of “precise” attacks.

Trump warned that further action would follow if the alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria continued.

“Under my leadership, our country will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to prosper,” Trump said, adding that the U.S military would continue to respond forcefully to threats.

Trump, in his statement, extended Christmas greetings while reiterating his hardline stance against terrorism.
