In a display of national solidarity, Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri, Borno State, to offer condolences and assess the condition of survivors following a deadly explosion at the Gamboru Market.
The high-level visit, confirmed on Friday, the 26th of December, 2025, by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, aimed to reassure the community of the government’s unwavering presence.
During his time at the medical facilities, the Vice President personally checked on the progress of those wounded in the attack. He emphasized that he was there on behalf of the administration to share in the grief of the victims.
According to the official statement, Shettima met with victims receiving medical treatment and “conveyed the sympathy of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government to the injured and families of those who lost their lives.”
Beyond words of comfort, the Vice President made a firm commitment to the recovery process. He underscored that the presidency would not abandon the survivors as they navigate their long road to healing.
Commitment to Care: Shettima guaranteed that the state would stand by the survivors.

He assured the victims that the “government would continue to provide necessary assistance and support following the tragic incident.”
The blast targeted worshippers during a sacred moment of the day. The explosion ripped through the Al-Adum Jumaat Mosque in the busy Gamboru Market area of the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council on Wednesday evening, specifically during the Maghrib prayers.
Initial reports indicate that “at least five people were killed while 35 others sustained injuries” in the attack.
While the community mourns, security forces have moved to secure the market district. “Security agencies have since intensified surveillance across the area as investigations into the incident continue.”
