‘Tinubu’s Lack of Care Scary’, ADC Blasts President Over Europe Trip

National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s decision to travel to Europe while the country battles fresh security shocks, describing the move as insensitive and alarming.

In a post on his verified X handle on Sunday, December 28, titled “PBAT’s lack of care scary”, Abdullahi said the President left the country at a time when Nigerians were looking to him for reassurance.

He wrote: “In the wake of yet another deadly bomb blast in Zamfara, to which the President has not said a single word; on the back of an unprecedented foreign military attack on Nigerian soil; right in the middle of all the uncertainty it has provoked; with a confused and scared nation waiting for the President to speak to us and assure us that all is well, the next thing we hear is that the President has gone on holiday. What a President”.

Abdullahi argued that Tinubu’s silence on the recent Zamfara bombing and on the controversial US airstrikes on Nigerian territory, coupled with his departure from the country, raises serious concerns about leadership at a time of national anxiety.

Tinubu left Lagos for Europe on Sunday as part of his end‑of‑year break, ahead of an official trip to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

In a separate statement released the same day, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu had been invited by UAE President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to attend the 2026 edition of the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week Summit.

According to Onanuga, the weeklong summit, scheduled for early January, “will bring together leaders from government, business and civil society to chart the next era of sustainable development” under the theme, “The Nexus of Next: All Systems Go.”

Onanuga added that the President will return to Nigeria after the summit.

Abdullahi’s criticism comes against the backdrop of a recent bomb blast in Zamfara State and US‑led airstrikes on terror targets in the North‑West, which have sparked national debate over insecurity, sovereignty and the President’s silence.
