President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to confirm Engr. Abdullahi Ramat as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The request was contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday, October 7, plenary session as lawmakers reconvened after their annual recess.
The Senate had embarked on its annual break on July 24, a tradition that allows members to combine legislative work with constituency activities and personal engagements.

Originally scheduled to resume on September 23, the upper chamber extended its recess by two weeks, returning instead on October 7, 2025.
Akpabio read the President’s letter, which sought the lawmakers’ approval for Ramat’s appointment in accordance with statutory provisions governing the electricity regulator.
The Senate is expected to consider the request in the coming days.
