Emmanuel “Nuel” Ojei, a prominent Nigerian industrialist and Chief Executive Officer of Nuel Ojei Holdings Ltd, is dead. He was 74.
Ojei died on December 28, 2025, after a brief illness. Family sources said he complained of chest pains before he was taken to a hospital in Asaba, Delta State, where he was confirmed dead.
Born on May 23, 1951, in Issele-Uku, Delta State, Ojei was widely regarded as one of the state’s most influential private-sector players, known for building businesses steadily and sustaining them over decades.
He began his career in 1973 as a sales executive with Rutam Motors Ltd, rising through the ranks to management level.
His experience in the automotive sector later shaped his entrepreneurial journey, leading to the establishment of Nuel Ojei Holdings in 1989.
Under his leadership, the group grew into a diversified conglomerate with interests spanning automotive distribution, insurance, banking, construction, oil and gas, and related services.
The company became a significant employer of labour and a strong contributor to Nigeria’s private-sector growth.
Beyond business, Ojei was known as a mentor and philanthropist, with a reputationt for supporting education, entrepreneurship and community development.

His contributions to business and economic development earned him several recognitions, including an honorary doctorate in Business Administration from Delta State University.
Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, in a condolence message, described Ojei’s death as a major loss to the state and the nation, citing his role in job creation and private-sector development.
Ojei is survived by his children and extended family. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the family.
