King Mohammed VI Sends Condolences to Tinubu, Praises Buhari’s Legacy

His Majesty King Mohammed VI of Morocco has extended heartfelt condolences to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the family of late President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Nigerian people, following Buhari’s passing in London on Sunday at the age of 82.

In an official message conveyed on Monday, the Moroccan monarch described the loss as a “sad occurrence” and paid tribute to Buhari’s dedication and leadership, which he said significantly contributed to Nigeria’s progress and stability.

“President Muhammadu Buhari was an illustrious leader who worked untiringly to serve his country’s best interests and lead his people toward further progress and prosperity,” King Mohammed VI said.

The monarch expressed solidarity with the Nigerian nation and extended his prayers to the bereaved family.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the bereaved. I share your grief,” he stated.

Reflecting on his personal interactions with the late Nigerian leader, King Mohammed VI highlighted the fruitful outcomes of their collaboration, particularly in the area of bilateral development.

“I want you to know how much I appreciated the working sessions I had with the deceased. They culminated in the launch of promising development projects that have ushered in a new era grounded in friendship and close cooperation between our two sister nations.”

The king’s message adds to the growing list of tributes from world leaders acknowledging Buhari’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic ties and championing economic and regional initiatives during his time in office.

President Buhari, who served from 2015 to 2023, died after a brief illness in a London hospital. Plans for a state burial in Daura, Katsina State, are currently underway.
