Soludo Signs N766bn 2026 Anambra Budget into Law

Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, on Monday signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, alongside three other key legislations, describing the move as a landmark step to position the state for steady growth and development.

The signing ceremony, held at the Light House in Awka, marked a new chapter in Anambra’s fiscal management and governance. The 2026 Appropriation Law saw the budget increase from N757 billion to N766 billion following extensive deliberations by the State House of Assembly. The budget is aimed at driving economic growth, infrastructure development, and social programmes across the state.

Speaking after signing the bill, Soludo described the budget as a strategic plan focused on delivering his administration’s promises and prioritising the needs of the people. “This budget is more than numbers — it is a strategic plan crafted to deliver on our administration’s promises. We have focused on what truly matters to the people, ensuring that resources are allocated to meet the critical needs in our communities,” he said.

The governor praised the Eighth Assembly for their diligence and collaboration, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance.

In addition to the budget, Soludo signed three other laws: the Anambra Mission School of Nursing and Midwifery (Amendment No. 3) Law, 2025; the Tax Clearance Certificate Law, 2025; and the Anambra State Correctional Service Law, 2025. He said the signing demonstrated the administration’s commitment to good governance and sustainable progress.

Soludo highlighted that the 2026 budget, tagged “Changing Gears 3.0: Solution Continues,” comprises N595.3 billion in capital expenditure, representing 79 per cent of the total budget, and N161.6 billion in recurrent expenditure, representing 21 per cent. The budget has a deficit of N225.7 billion, expected to be financed through hybrid funding options, public–private partnerships, improved internally generated revenue, concessions, and support from financial institutions.

The governor assured that every kobo would be prudently utilised to maximise value for the people of Anambra. “The 2026 budget framework is designed to drive growth across all sectors. We remain committed to responsible fiscal management, with no borrowing for consumption. We will continue to lay the foundation for the prosperous, liveable, and smart homeland we envisioned,” Soludo said.

The signing ceremony was attended by Speaker of the State Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze; Majority Leader, Ikenna Ofodeme; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Prof. Sylva Chika Ifemeje; Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake; and other state officials.
