Anthony Joshua Discharge from Hospital After Fatal Road Accident

World heavyweight boxing champion, Anthony Joshua, has been discharged from hospital following a devastating road accident that claimed the lives of two of his associates, the Lagos and Ogun State governments have confirmed.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, disclosed that Joshua was discharged late Wednesday afternoon after doctors certified him clinically fit.

The accident, which occurred on December 29, 2025, resulted in the deaths of Lateef Ayodele and Cina Gami. Both state governments once again expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased, describing the incident as a deeply painful loss.

“We pray that the Almighty grants the repose of their souls and gives their families and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement said.

Although Joshua was confirmed to be in stable condition at the time of his discharge, the statement noted that the boxer remains emotionally distressed by the tragedy and will continue his recovery at home.

It was also revealed that Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited a funeral home in Lagos on Wednesday afternoon to pay his final respects to the deceased, as arrangements were being concluded for their repatriation later in the day.

The statement further conveyed the appreciation of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for the widespread support and concern shown by Nigerians following the incident.

The governors also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the period.

In addition, the governments praised the medical team at Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, for their professionalism and quality care in treating Joshua and others injured in the crash.

The tragic incident has continued to draw nationwide sympathy, with many Nigerians offering condolences to the bereaved families and praying for Joshua’s full recovery.
