PDP Chieftain Slams Tinubu’s New Year Address as Hollow, Detached

A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dickson Iroegbu, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s New Year’s Day address, describing it as empty and disconnected from the realities facing Nigerians.

Iroegbu made the remarks on Friday, the 2nd of January, 2026, while speaking during an interview on Prime Time, a programme aired on Arise Television.

According to him, the president failed to demonstrate leadership or empathy in his message to the nation, questioning both the substance of the address and the circumstances under which it was delivered.

“First, where’s the president? From where did he make this so-called address to the Nigerian people? He’s disconnected from the realities on ground.

“The President is nowhere to be found. It is 2026, and he sent a speech from a location unknown to Nigerians. His speech is so hollow and empty because he doesn’t know what Nigerians are going through.

“We just got into 2026 and Christians have already been slaughtered this new year, and the president is nowhere to be found.

“President Tinubu’s so-called New Year’s address had nothing to do with the Nigerian people. The issues raised in his speech clearly show that he’s just playing to the gallery,” he said.

The PDP member maintained that the address failed to confront pressing national concerns, particularly insecurity and the hardship experienced by citizens across the country.
