FG Withdraws Criminal Charge Against Senator Natasha

The federal government has formally withdrawn the criminal charge filed against Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the senator representing Kogi Central, bringing an end to the prosecution pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The withdrawal was contained in a notice of discontinuance filed in suit number FHC/ABJ/CR/195/2025, marked between the federal government and Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The notice, dated December 12, 2025, was brought pursuant to sections 108(1), 108(2)(a) and 108(5) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015.

“The Office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation intends to discontinue proceeding in this matter,” the notice stated.

The document was signed by M. B. Abubakar, the director of public prosecutions of the federation, alongside Aderonke Imana, the assistant chief state counsel.

It was filed on behalf of Lateef Fagbemi, the attorney-general of the federation and minister of justice.

Court records show that the Federal High Court, Abuja, received and endorsed the notice on December 15, 2025.

The registry of the court subsequently certified the document as a true copy on December 18, 2025.

First Daily reports that the development comes days after the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, disclosed on Thursday that he had instructed his legal team to withdraw all court actions he initiated against individuals over alleged defamation.

In December 2025, Akpabio had instituted a N200 billion defamation suit at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja against Akpoti-Uduaghan, following sexual harassment allegations she made against him.
