…Says President bent on impoverishing Nigerians
The New Direction for Nigeria Movement has strongly condemned the implementation of the new tax regime by the Federal Government, describing it as illegal, fraudulent and designed to impoverish Nigerians.
In a press release signed by its Convener, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the movement alleged that the tax laws currently being enforced were not the same as those passed by the National Assembly, claiming they are “illegally gazetted” and represent a forged version of the original bill.
According to the group, the development is part of what it described as a deliberate agenda by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to “weaponise poverty” against Nigerians in order to weaken the population and suppress resistance against corruption and poor governance.
“The new tax regime currently being implemented by the Federal Government is a fraudulent document orchestrated by the Presidency to execute policies designed to subjugate Nigerians and strip them of the capacity to challenge corruption and misrule,” the statement said.
The movement further described the alleged gazetting of a different version of the tax laws as evidence of “advanced graft and absolute moral decay,” insisting that Nigeria was being run like a banana republic governed by the whims of those in power.

Comrade Adebayo accused the Tinubu administration of driving the country towards state failure, citing insecurity, poor education, decaying infrastructure, food shortages and what he termed an intolerance for opposition politics.
“A government that is unable or unwilling to secure lives and property, provide quality education, infrastructure and food, while actively weakening opposition parties to impose a one-party system, is not what Nigeria deserves,” the statement added.
The movement called on Nigerians to vote out the Tinubu administration in the 2027 general election and rally behind what it described as a credible and competent alternative capable of national transformation.
“The current administration has failed woefully,” the statement concluded.
