Information Minister Disowns Article on 2027 Niger Gov’ship Election, Suspends Aide

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has disowned a political write-up titled “Malagi 2027,” which speculated on scenarios for the 2027 Niger State governorship election, and suspended the aide responsible for the publication.

In a statement on Wednesday, January 7, issued by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, the ministry clarified that the article was written and published without Idris’ knowledge or approval.

“The write-up and all its contexts are hereby vehemently disclaimed,” the statement said, urging the public to disregard the publication.

According to the statement, the minister remains fully committed to his duties at the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation and has no intention of engaging in political speculation.

“The Honourable Minister is fully focused on his responsibility superintending the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, and has no room for political distractions,” it said.

The ministry further emphasised that Idris neither directed nor authorised the publication, describing the article as entirely unauthorised.

“Please disregard the write-up as the Honourable Minister neither directed nor approved the publication,” the statement added.

Disciplinary action has already been taken against the aide, who was suspended immediately, and an investigation into the matter has been ordered.

“The Honourable Minister has directed an immediate investigation, and the aide has been issued a letter of suspension with immediate effect,” the statement confirmed.

The statement also addressed speculation suggesting tension between Idris and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, highlighting their cordial relationship.

“It is noteworthy that the Honourable Minister and his home state governor, His Excellency Mohammed Umaru Bago, enjoy a positive, mutual relationship for the greater good of Niger State,” it said.

It concluded by warning that political speculations like those in “Malagi 2027” could undermine their shared objectives.
