Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called for calm following a deadly attack by gunmen on the National Park Office in Oloka Village, Oriire Local Government Area.
In a statement on Wednesday, issued by his Special Adviser on Media, the governor confirmed that five National Park Service Forest Guard officers were killed during the incident, describing it as a ādevastating lossā of personnel carrying out their lawful duties.
Makinde said preliminary investigations indicate that the attack, which occurred around 9pm on Tuesday, January 6, was a cross-border operation carried out by bandits. He assured residents that security agencies have restored normalcy, deployed additional personnel to the area, and are actively investigating the incident.

The governor appealed to residents, particularly in Oriire LGA and other border communities, to cooperate with security agencies in intelligence gathering and urged calm, emphasizing that his administration would take decisive measures to prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
