Lagos Government Debunks Rift Claims Between Sanwo-Olu, Ogun Governor Abiodun

The Lagos State Government has firmly dismissed reports alleging a rift between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, describing the claims as false, misleading, and aimed at sowing discord.

The clarification was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Gboyega Akosile, following the circulation of the reports on social media and some online platforms.

According to Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu’s attention was drawn to the insinuations of a strained relationship between the two leaders, which he categorically denied.

“We wish to state clearly that this is not true. In fact, it is the direct opposite of the relationship that exists between the two leaders,” the statement read.

Akosile stressed that Governors Sanwo-Olu and Abiodun share a cordial and brotherly relationship, marked by regular meetings and frequent communication on matters of mutual interest, particularly those bordering on development and governance.

“The two brother-governors meet regularly and speak with each other frequently on issues concerning the development of their respective states,” he said.

He noted that the strong working relationship between the two governors is further reinforced by the close geographical, socio-cultural, and economic ties between Lagos and Ogun states, which share common boundaries and interconnected populations.

The Lagos State Government also issued a warning to individuals and groups spreading what it described as fake news, urging them to desist from attempts to create unnecessary tension between the two leaders.

“We advise those seeking to plant seeds of discord between the two leaders through fake news to desist forthwith, as both Prince Dapo Abiodun and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu are bound by a common vision to make life more abundant for their people,” the statement added.

The government reaffirmed that both administrations remain committed to collaborative efforts that promote regional development, economic growth, and improved welfare for residents of both states.
