Lagos Islamic Adviser Urges Unity, Religious Harmony, Backs Sanwo-Olu’s Administration

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Islamic Affairs, Dr. Jebe Abdullahi, has stressed the need for collective commitment to preserving peaceful coexistence among adherents of different religions in Lagos State and across Nigeria.

According to him, the current realities make it necessary for Nigerians to stand together, promote unity at every level, and avoid behaviours capable of fueling religious division or intolerance.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the 4th of January, 2026, Abdullahi appealed to residents of Lagos to continue backing the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, in order to enable the government to sustain the delivery of democratic benefits to the people.

“It is a truism that Lagos State remains the most accommodating state in Nigeria today, and this is achievable because it has a template for peace among different faiths. The Ministry of Home Affairs has been charged with this responsibility.

“The peaceful coexistence and harmonious relationship among different faiths is a result of the consistent promotion of unity, peace, and justice through the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council the body saddled with the responsibility of providing religious leaders with a platform to promote understanding among leaders and followers, as well as laying the foundation for sustainable peace and religious harmony,” he said.
