Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has commissioned a newly constructed five-kilometre road in Aguata Local Government Area of the state, describing the project as a boost to community-driven development.
The road, located in Ezinifite community, was constructed by a private individual and indigene of the area, Chief Anthony Obele. The project was executed through a Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP), an initiative promoted by the Soludo administration.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, the road cuts across key neighbourhoods in Ezinifite and is expected to ease transportation challenges, enhance local commerce and improve the quality of life of residents.
The statement noted that the project carries special significance as it is located within the governor’s local government area. It added that the newly tarred road would improve mobility, stimulate economic activities and strengthen social interaction within the community.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Soludo commended Obele for his commitment to grassroots development, describing the project as a model of sustainable community development that complements government efforts.
The governor said the pace of development required in the state makes it impossible for government alone to meet all infrastructure needs, stressing the importance of partnerships involving private individuals, government and local communities.
“At the speed at which we need to develop, government alone cannot do it. Our people are all over the world, excelling and making an impact,” Soludo said. “Once you do this kind of thing, call me—I will be there to commission it.”

He urged Anambra indigenes at home and in the diaspora to invest in their communities, noting that even modest interventions could make a significant difference when undertaken for the public good.
Also speaking, Obele said the project reflected his belief that leadership should be measured by tangible contributions rather than titles. He praised the governor’s leadership and development vision, saying it had renewed hope among Anambra indigenes.
Residents of Ezinifite, including the traditional ruler and the President General of the community, described the road as a symbol of hope and empowerment, noting that it represents a shift towards community-led development and citizen participation.
