JCI Empowers Inmates With Vocational Tools, Food Items in Ogun Correctional Centre

The Junior Chamber International Abeokuta has donated vocational training tools and relief materials to inmates of the Ibara Correctional Centre in Abeokuta, Ogun State, as part of its humanitarian outreach under the iCare Project 2026.

Items presented during the visit included shoe-making tools such as bench files, sewing machines, hairdressing and barbing equipment, clippers, hand dryers, plastic chairs, bags of rice, and NECO registration scratch cards.

In a statement issued on Friday, the President of JCI Abeokuta, Babatunde Isaac, said the intervention was aimed at restoring hope, promoting human dignity, and supporting the welfare and rehabilitation of inmates through targeted humanitarian assistance.

According to Isaac, the initiative aligns with the organisation’s global mission of creating positive change and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly goals focused on poverty reduction, quality education, decent work, and overall well-being.

He noted that the iCare Project is an annual programme, adding that this year’s edition was designed to remind inmates that they remain valued members of society and deserve care, compassion, and opportunities for self-improvement.

Isaac explained that the choice of the Ibara Correctional Centre was informed by the critical role correctional facilities play in reforming lives, often with limited resources.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the iCare Project 2026, JC Owolabi Kareem, said the association remains committed to people-centred initiatives that ease hardship and promote social inclusion. He called on individuals, corporate organisations, and development partners to support humanitarian programmes that foster dignity and sustainable impact.

The management of the Ibara Correctional Centre commended JCI Abeokuta for the donation, noting that such partnerships complement government efforts in inmate welfare and rehabilitation.
