AAU Ekpoma Closes Campus, Delays Resumption, New Semester

The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has announced the temporary closure of the campus, postponing the resumption of students and the start of the new semester.

The decision, approved by the university Senate, was communicated in a statement signed by the Head of Information, Public Relations and Protocol, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie.

According to management, the closure is necessary to complete ongoing renovations and upgrades of student hostels and other campus facilities, aimed at enhancing academic and residential conditions.

Students still occupying university hostels were directed to vacate immediately to allow renovation work to proceed uninterrupted.

All academic activities, including ongoing examinations, have been suspended until further notice.

The university also postponed the 140th Inaugural Lecture, originally scheduled for 15 January 2026, and said fresh dates for the lecture, examinations, and resumption will be announced later.

While renovation remains the official reason for the closure, the move comes amid heightened security concerns in Ekpoma, including recent reports of kidnappings and protests by students and residents demanding improved safety.

Students, staff, parents, and guardians are advised to await official announcements on the revised academic calendar.
