Meta Taps Ex-Trump Official Dina Powell McCormick as President

Meta Platforms has appointed Dina Powell McCormick, a former senior official in the administration of United States President Donald Trump, as its president, vice chairman.

The appointment was announced on January 12, 2026, signalling a major expansion of Meta’s executive leadership as the company steps up investments in artificial intelligence and global infrastructure.

Powell McCormick previously served as Deputy National Security Adviser during the Trump administration and brings extensive experience spanning government and high-level finance.

She also held senior roles at Goldman Sachs, where she worked for several years before returning to public service.

Prior to her appointment, Powell McCormick was a member of Meta’s board of directors, a position she stepped down from in December 2025 to assume the full-time executive role.

In her new position, she is expected to play a central role in shaping Meta’s long-term strategy, with responsibility for capital partnerships, large-scale infrastructure investments, data centres, energy systems, AI-driven technologies.

Meta’s Chief Executive Officer, Mark Zuckerberg, said Powell McCormick’s global experience and leadership background would be critical as the company enters its next phase of growth amid rising regulatory and geopolitical pressures.

The move reflects Meta’s increasing reliance on seasoned political and corporate figures as it navigates complex policy environments while expanding its global technology footprint.
