The Kano State Police Command has intercepted suspected explosive materials and illicit drugs in two separate operations carried out in parts of the Kano metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kano on Friday.
Kiyawa said that on Monday, police officers attached to the Rijiyar Lemo Police Division, acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, executed a search warrant at a residence in Tudun Bojuwa Quarters, Fagge Local Government Area.
According to him, two large sacks containing suspected incriminating materials were recovered during the operation. A team of experts from the command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) unit was immediately deployed to identify the items.
Preliminary findings revealed that one of the sacks contained six rolls of detonating cords, while the other had 20 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and 220 sachets of suspected Exol tablets. Kiyawa added that investigations were ongoing.
In a separate operation, Kiyawa said operatives attached to the Anti-Thuggery Unit, while on intelligence-led patrol at Sani Mainagge Quarters, Gwale Local Government Area, intercepted a commercial tricycle rider conveying three bags containing suspected heavy materials.
He said EOD-CBRN experts were also deployed to the scene, where 3,700 pieces of electric detonators were discovered inside the bags.
The tricycle rider reportedly led police to the arrest of a suspect identified as Ibrahim Garba, also known as ‘Manyan Baki’, a 49-year-old man from Zamfara State.

Kiyawa said the suspect confessed to facilitating the movement of the materials from Nasarawa State to other destinations, adding that the command had launched an intensive investigation to uncover other persons connected to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations and urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
He called on members of the public to report suspicious movements, items or activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers.
The public was also advised not to touch any suspicious item seen, but to keep a safe distance and immediately alert the police.
