The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, over the alleged killing of his wife, Umaima Maidawa, 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued on Friday in Birnin Kebbi by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the incident occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on Monday.
Usman said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly attacked his wife with a wooden hoe handle, leading to her death. He added that Mamuda reportedly fled the community immediately after the incident but was later tracked and apprehended following police investigation and credible information provided by residents.
“The suspect was arrested after concerted efforts by the police, aided by intelligence from members of the community,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and discreet investigation, with a view to prosecution.

The police command expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased and reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice in cases involving domestic violence and other serious crimes.
SP Usman also urged members of the public to promptly report incidents and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in the collective effort to maintain peace and security across Kebbi State.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the dangers of domestic violence and the need for early intervention and community support to prevent such tragic outcomes.
