The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC) has sounded the alarm over the N30m expression of interest forms demanded by the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the upcoming Ebonyi local government election, cautioning that such a move could pave the way for the looting of LGA funds in the future.
Reacting to the development on Tuesday, the 20th of January, 2026, the National President of OYC, Igboayaka O. Igboayaka, alleged that the process could shut out youths and people of integrity from the race.
Igboayaka called on Governor Francis Nwifuru to ensure a level playing ground and open door policy for all aspirants in the forthcoming local government and councillorship polls.
He further demanded that Chairmanship and Councillorship nomination fees be reduced to N150,000 and N50,000 respectively, cautioning that individuals who pay such exorbitant fees may be inclined to embezzle LGA funds after assuming office.

“Reducing the Chairmanship and Councillors nomination fees to make it accessible to Ebonyi youths will foster healthy competition, which enhances credibility and competence,” he said.
Igboayaka added, “Paying such an exorbitant amount to secure a local government chairmanship position clearly indicates that young individuals who desire to serve as local government executive chairmen may be inclined to embezzle LGA funds if they are elected.”
He also warned against what he described as a calculated conspiracy against Ebonyi youths or any attempt at undermining the state’s economic and political development.
