Trump Claims Role In TikTok Ownership Deal, Credits Platform For Youth Support

United States President Donald J. Trump has claimed a pivotal role in what he described as the “saving” of TikTok, announcing that the popular social media platform will now be owned by a group of American investors he referred to as “great American patriots.”

Trump made the assertion in a statement shared on his official Instagram account on Friday, where he reflected on the political and cultural significance of the platform, particularly among young voters.

“I am so happy to have helped in saving TikTok,” Trump wrote, adding that the platform would become “an important voice” under its new ownership structure. He further suggested that TikTok played a notable role in his strong performance among youth voters during the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

The president expressed hope that TikTok users would remember his involvement “long into the future,” describing the conclusion of the deal as “dramatic, final, and beautiful.”

Trump also credited Vice President JD Vance and members of his administration for their roles in facilitating the agreement. In a rare note of cross-border appreciation, he thanked Chinese President Xi Jinping for working with the U.S. and ultimately approving the deal, noting that China “could have gone the other way.”
