United States President Donald Trump has suggested that a breakthrough has been reached in negotiations with China over the future of TikTok, the popular social media platform owned by ByteDance.
In a post on Truth Social on Monday, September 15,Trump said a high-level U.S.-China trade meeting in Europe had “gone very well,” adding that
“A deal was also reached on a certain company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save.”
Although he did not mention TikTok by name, the statement is widely interpreted as a reference to the platform, which has faced the prospect of a U.S. ban if ByteDance fails to divest its American operations.
The President also disclosed plans to speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week, saying the U.S.-China relationship “remains a very strong one.”

The remarks come amid ongoing efforts to resolve disputes surrounding TikTok’s ownership and data security practices.
While Trump’s comments suggest progress, neither government has confirmed the details or terms of any agreement, and it remains unclear whether ByteDance will be required to sell TikTok’s U.S. assets or meet new regulatory conditions.
The discussions formed part of broader trade talks held in Madrid, Spain, between American and Chinese officials.
