Adeleke Faults Oyebamiji’s Economic Plan In Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has taken a swipe at the economic plan presented by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, warning that the proposals could threaten the economic direction currently being pursued by the state government.

The governor cautioned that the opposition’s policy outline, if adopted, may reverse the gains recorded through recent economic reforms in Osun State.

In a statement released on Sunday, the 25th of January, 2026, in Osogbo by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said a detailed review of Oyebamiji’s document revealed policy choices that stand in contrast to the development agenda being implemented by his administration.

According to the statement, “The Adeleke administration’s strategy is anchored on local content utilisation, grassroots empowerment and reduced tax burdens, while the opposition blueprint allegedly promotes policies that may encourage capital movement outside the state.

“Our approach is designed to ensure Osun resources directly benefit Osun residents.”

The governor highlighted several programmes already underway, citing “ongoing initiatives, including artisan and cooperative financing programmes valued at nearly ₦4 billion, enforcement of local content policies in procurement, and the revitalisation of the Osun Digital Economy Hub to boost participation in the global technology sector”.

The statement further noted that “reforms in tax harmonisation and digitisation have improved internally generated revenue, while the revival of free trade zones and agro-mechanisation programmes has repositioned the state for industrial growth and agricultural expansion”.

Addressing claims of overlap between the two economic proposals, Adeleke alleged that sections of the APC blueprint simply replicate initiatives already in progress.

“Several elements highlighted by the APC candidate are policies that are currently under implementation by this administration,” the statement noted.

The governor also drew attention to recent legislative milestones, including the signing of the state electricity law, which empowers Osun to regulate power generation and distribution. He added that steps were already being taken to enhance energy supply as a critical driver of economic growth.

On regional economic cooperation, Adeleke said partnerships among South-West states were already operational, but warned that any arrangement that undermines Osun’s local economy could be counterproductive.

“Any framework that sidelines local content risks reversing hard-earned gains,” the statement said.

Responding to references made to the blue economy, the governor pointed to ongoing public-private partnership initiatives such as the Owala Lake Beach Resort, which he said had been revived after years of abandonment, along with plans to unlock other inland water and tourism assets.

He reiterated his administration’s determination to consolidate existing reforms and cautioned against policy shifts capable of derailing progress.

“Osun is on a path of inclusive growth and economic stability, and we remain focused on policies that protect and advance these gains,” the statement said.
