‘Adeleke Stifling Opposition’, Osun APC Alleges; Signage Agency Denies Claims

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of using state agencies to undermine opposition campaigns ahead of the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement issued on Friday in Osogbo, the party’s spokesman, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the governor was “deliberately stifling the opposition” by denying it fair access to outdoor campaign spaces.

Olabisi claimed Adeleke and his aides “are desperately looking for ways to hold down the hands of the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the contest by misusing his power of incumbency.”

He queried an alleged directive to the Osun Signage Agency.

“What could have informed the Draconian and sadistic directive of the Osun State Government under the leadership of Mr Adeleke to have directed O’Signage Agency not to approve the erection or pasting of any APC billboard in Osogbo?” he asked.

The APC further alleged that government instructed that “no APC billboards should be displayed from Akoda to Osogbo City Stadium” for a period leading to the election and that O’Signage had been told to identify owners of existing billboards and “compensate them for a period of three years per billboard.”

Olabisi described the move as “unlawful, unpopular, wicked, unsustainable and cruel,” saying it reflected “the fear of his imminent defeat.”

However, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on O’Signage, Hoarding and Advertisement Agency, Wale Ayofe‑Aminu, dismissed the allegations as “baseless, hollow and politically contrived.”

He said the APC was trying to “mask their growing unease over the unmistakable love and overwhelming support the people of Osun State continue to show for Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke.”

Ayofe‑Aminu insisted: “The Osun State Signage and Advertisement Agency operates strictly within the confines of the law… There has been no directive, explicit or implied, to victimise any party or candidate. Any insinuation to the contrary is a calculated distortion of facts.”

He added that “no amount of press theatrics or alarmist propaganda” would save the APC from defeat in 2026, urging the opposition to “focus on rebuilding credibility” instead of attacking “lawful institutions.”
