Adeleke’s Defection to Accord Sparks Nationwide Membership Surge — Chairman

The Accord Party says it is experiencing a wave of new members across the country following the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to its platform.

National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, told journalists this on Tuesday, December 23, at a press conference held at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, where he also rejected claims that the party is factionalised.

“Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined Accord along with his political associates and supporters, our party has experienced tremendous national acceptance.

“Thousands of Nigerians have joined and identified with Accord across the country, a testament to Governor Adeleke’s political influence and national appeal,” Mgbudem said.

He said the governor’s defection, alongside the movement of his political structure, has significantly raised Accord’s visibility and strengthened its position in the national political space as preparations build up toward the 2026 Osun governorship election.

Mgbudem also weighed in on recent controversies involving the party’s expelled former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen.

He accused Imumolen of spreading false information and laying claim to positions he never legitimately occupied.

“It is laughable that Mr. Imumolen would arrogate to himself positions he never held, nor was appointed to or elected for.

“His claims are a mirage in his imagination and an insult to the good people of Osun State, who witnessed the emergence of Governor Adeleke as the duly nominated Accord candidate in the governorship primaries,” he stated.

The chairman stressed that Accord remains intact and focused, dismissing talk of internal splits as the handiwork of political opportunists seeking relevance.

“I state categorically that Accord is the most peaceful, united, and fastest-growing political party in Nigeria today.

“There is no faction at any level of leadership. We will not be distracted by anti-democratic forces seeking personal gain through cheap publicity,” he concluded.
