Dogara Opens Up On 2027 Vice-Presidential Speculations

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has addressed rumors linking him to a potential role as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Sunday, the 25th of January, 2026, Dogara reflected on the nature of leadership, emphasizing that building a nation has never required flawless individuals. He drew attention to historical precedents, noting that ordinary people have often been at the heart of great civilizations.

Acknowledging his own imperfections, Dogara said that while he has significant political experience, he is by no means perfect. He highlighted that all his accomplishments are “by the grace of God,” adding that he remains mindful of his limitations.

The former Speaker pointed to his tenure as the fourth-highest public officer in the country, which provided him with exposure to critical aspects of governance that many may never experience.

Regarding speculation about his readiness for a vice-presidential role, Dogara remarked: “Well, honestly speaking, I don’t know why I’m being asked these questions, but let me say something, I don’t think I’m ever prepared for anything. Honestly, what I’m prepared for is that I know that everything I am is by the grace of God.

I will look at myself as totally unprepared, though I have some rich pedigree. I’ve served as the Speaker of the House of Representative, having been number four person in this country of about 200 million, there are certain things I know that a lot of people don’t know.

I can assure you that, but all I know is that I’m not perfect.”

Dogara’s comments underline his belief that leadership is less about perfection and more about service, experience, and humility.
