The Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) has congratulated filmmaker and actress Funke Akindele following the historic box office performance of her latest film, Behind The Scenes, which has grossed over ₦2 billion in ticket sales.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the corporation on Monday, January 26, 2026, where it described the achievement as a landmark moment for African cinema.
The NFC noted that Behind The Scenes has become the first Nollywood production to cross the ₦2 billion threshold in box office revenue across the continent.
The film was released nationwide on Friday, December 12, 2025, and has since recorded strong audience turnout across cinemas in Nigeria.
It has also posted impressive commercial results in international markets, particularly in the United Kingdom and Ireland, where it currently ranks as the highest-grossing Nollywood title.
According to the NFC, the film’s success reflects a clear creative vision, effective production planning, and strategic distribution, supported by the collective efforts of its cast and production crew.

From an industry perspective, the corporation said Behind The Scenes underscores Nollywood’s growing commercial strength and artistic maturity.
The film is among the fastest Nollywood releases to cross the ₦1 billion mark within weeks of release, recorded the highest single-day box office gross on Boxing Day, December 26, 2025, and has now set a new continental record by surpassing ₦2 billion in ticket sales.
The NFC described the milestone as a collective win for Nollywood, Nigeria’s creative economy, and the global visibility of Nigerian storytelling, commending the filmmaker, cast, crew, exhibitors, distributors, and audiences whose support helped turn the project into a historic success.
