Former President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof Adedayo Faduyile, has formally entered the race for the Ondo South Senatorial District seat in the National Assembly.
The declaration was made on Sunday, the 1st of February, 2026, in Okitipupa through a statement in which Faduyile confirmed his readiness to contest the seat. He is a professor of pathology and forensic medicine and previously served as Special Adviser on Health to the Ondo State Government.
The senatorial seat became available after Senator Jimoh Ibrahim was named an ambassadorial nominee by President Bola Tinubu, paving the way for a by-election to fill the position.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is yet to fix a date for the by-election, which will determine who completes the unexpired portion of Ibrahim’s tenure in the Senate.
Faduyile disclosed that his senatorial ambition has been communicated to leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the ward level in Ikoya, Okitipupa Local Government Area, as well as to party stakeholders in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
He explained that his decision to seek the ticket was taken after wide-ranging consultations with party leaders and key stakeholders across the state, a process he said was undertaken “with a deep sense of responsibility and humility.”
“My aspiration at this defining moment is to safeguard the political strength of Ondo State, sustain the developmental momentum under Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and serve as an outstanding voice in the Red Chamber,” Faduyile said.
Currently, Faduyile serves as Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kontagora, Niger State. He noted that his experience combines strong grassroots engagement with exposure at the highest levels of public service and diplomacy.
Reflecting on his tenure as NMA president, he recalled his role in engaging both the Presidency and the National Assembly to push for key health-related legislations.
“This demonstrates that I am not only a candidate of ideas but also a leader who understands how to navigate the legislative process to deliver impactful policies for the people,” he said.
According to him, replacing Senator Ibrahim requires a candidate capable of building consensus and commanding respect across political, traditional, and professional divides.

He therefore appealed to leaders of the APC to rally behind his ambition, urging them to deploy party structures and influence in support of his candidacy.
“I have always been a loyal party member, a builder, and a unifier, and I understand the local and national challenges that need translating into law,” he said.
“If given the opportunity to fly the APC flag and win the by-election, I will serve with purpose, diligence, humility, and resolve.
“I will hit the ground running from day one in the Red Chamber to deliver for Ondo State and Nigerians,” Faduyile added.
