TCN To Plunge Ondo Communities Into Four-Day Blackout

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned preventive maintenance exercise at the Ife/Ondo 330/132kV and 132/33kV Transmission Substation, scheduled to run from Monday, February 2, to Thursday, February 5, 2026.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Monday, TCN said the maintenance would be carried out daily between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., noting that the exercise is aimed at improving the reliability and efficiency of electricity transmission in the area.

According to the company, the maintenance work will involve the decommissioning of an old wave trap and the installation of a new one at the Ife/Ondo substation. TCN added that its contractor would also replace existing single-circuit towers on the Ife/Ondo 132/33kV transmission line with new double-circuit towers.

TCN explained that the maintenance activities would result in an interruption of bulk electricity supply during the period, preventing the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) from supplying power to customers in Okitipupa, Ondo, and neighbouring communities throughout the duration of the exercise.

The company expressed regret over any inconvenience the planned outage may cause electricity consumers in the affected areas and assured that bulk power supply would be restored immediately after the completion of the maintenance work.

TCN further stated that the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the national transmission grid and ensure a more stable and efficient power supply across the country.
