Former Kaduna Central lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has strongly condemned the killing of Saif al-Islam, the son of former Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In a statement shared on his verified X handle on Wednesday, the 4th of February, 2026, Sani described the assassination as both tragic and unfortunate.
Reports indicate that Saif al-Islam Gaddafi was killed in Zintan, a western Libyan city where he had been based for the last ten years.
Reflecting on the incident, the former senator said, “When I read sometimes ago that Gaddafi’s son was returning to Libya, I wondered how safe was that decision.

“The assassination of Saif al-Islam is tragic and unfortunate. Even the testimony of victims of human trafficking trapped in Libya tells everything about the tragedy and violence in that country. Adieu Saif.”
Senator Sani’s remarks underline the continuing instability and risks in Libya, highlighting the dangers faced by individuals returning to the country amid ongoing conflict and unrest.
