The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, has explained that the police were initially overwhelmed when terrorists launched the deadly attack on Woro community.
Ejire-Adeyemi made the remarks on Friday, the 6th of February, 2026, during an interview on Channels Television’s “The Morning Brief” programme.
Residents of Woro had alleged that security agencies, including the police, failed to respond to the attack for nearly 10 hours. The incident resulted in the tragic deaths of over 100 people.
Addressing the situation, the Police PRO stated:
“Well, as of that moment, I just believe that probably they were overwhelmed. We also have this collaboration with the local vigilantes in that community, and most importantly, the National Forest guards are also present in that community.

“We just say they were overwhelmed, and before they could get back because of the distance from the community to the Divisional Police Headquarters, which is located in Kayama, I don’t know how long that took, but it is quite a distance, but definitely they got reinforcement,” she said.
Ejire-Adeyemi emphasized that despite the delayed response, reinforcements were eventually deployed, highlighting the logistical challenges faced by security forces in reaching the remote area.
