A police investigation report has indicted Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations that she falsely accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio and his wife, Unoma, of involvement in the murder of late Iniobong Umoren and the alleged harvesting of her organs.
The report, dated February 3, 2026, was signed by the Commissioner of Police, Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Akin Fakorede, and addressed to the President of The Unique Family Foundation, Sandra Duru.
Duru had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police in April 2025, requesting an investigation into claims allegedly made to her by the senator.
According to the police, Duru alleged that Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, contacted her on March 27, 2025, claiming that Akpabio and his wife were responsible for Umoren’s killing and that her organs were harvested to treat the Senate President’s wife. Troubled by the gravity of the allegation, Duru reported the matter to the police.
The report stated that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan was invited by investigators and made a cautionary statement on April 28, 2025, denying that she made the allegation.
A key witness, Ina Okopi Agu, who allegedly provided Duru’s phone number to the senator, also made a voluntary statement confirming the circumstances surrounding the call.
As part of the investigation, detectives conducted a forensic voice analysis of an audio recording linked to the allegation, which confirmed that the voice was human.
Officers were also deployed to Akwa Ibom State to review the murder case of Iniobong Umoren, including post-mortem findings, court records, and interviews with her family.
“The post-mortem examination clearly showed that no organ of the deceased was missing or compromised,” the report stated, adding that Umoren’s family members corroborated this finding.

Police also reviewed certified true copies of the trial records of Uduak Frank Akpan, who was convicted and sentenced to death in 2021 for Umoren’s murder.
The investigation concluded that the organ-harvesting claim allegedly communicated by Akpoti-Uduaghan was “false and without any iota of truth whatsoever,” stressing that Akpabio and his wife “had absolutely nothing to do” with the murder.
Based on the findings, the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation filed a three-count charge of criminal defamation against the senator at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory on March 29, 2025, under Sections 391 and 392 of the Penal Code applicable in the FCT.
However, the case did not proceed after Akpabio opted to discontinue the prosecution, leading to a formal withdrawal of the charges.
The report commended Duru for her “patriotism and courage” in reporting the allegation, noting that her cooperation helped resolve a controversy that had lingered in the public space for months.
