At least 30 passengers have reportedly lost their lives in a fatal road accident involving a trailer, prompting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to order urgent medical attention for survivors of the crash.
Reports indicate that the trailer, which was travelling towards Gujungu, was involved in the accident after allegedly being driven recklessly. The crash claimed the lives of more than 30 people, while several others sustained severe injuries.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed profound grief over the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday at Kwanar Barde, located in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
The governor’s reaction was conveyed in a statement issued on Sunday, the 8th of February, 2026, by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Describing the tragedy as devastating and deeply painful, Governor Yusuf said the loss extends beyond the immediate families of the victims to the entire people of Kano State.
He offered prayers for the departed, asking Allah to grant them eternal rest, and called on God to give their families the strength to endure the sorrow.
The governor also prayed for the quick recovery of those injured and currently undergoing treatment in hospitals across the state.

As part of immediate response measures, Governor Yusuf directed the Kano State Ministry of Health to ensure that all survivors receiving care in public health facilities are provided with free and comprehensive medical treatment without delay.
In addition, he instructed the Office of the Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs to promptly evaluate the situation and recommend appropriate support for the affected families.
Governor Yusuf further warned motorists, especially operators of heavy-duty vehicles, against reckless driving and urged strict compliance with traffic laws to avert similar incidents in the future.
