Senator Nenadi Usman has officially resumed her duties as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), marking a historic moment as she becomes the first female leader of a major political party in Nigeria.
Usman announced her return to the party’s national secretariat at Utako, Abuja, in a statement posted on her official X handle on Monday, February 10.
“Today, I resumed duties as the National Chairman of the LP at the Party’s National Secretariat, located at Utako, Abuja,” she said.
The LP leader expressed her gratitude to party supporters nationwide, acknowledging their continued backing during the party’s period of internal disputes and leadership challenges.

“I will continue to thank our supporters across the nation for your unflinching support and encouragement,” she added.
Senator Usman concluded her message with a rallying call to the party’s members: “Labour Party, forward ever!”
Her assumption of office follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that recognised her caretaker committee as the legitimate leadership of the party, replacing the Julius Abure-led faction.
The decision ended months of internal disputes and parallel leadership claims within the LP that intensified after the 2023 general elections.
