PHOTOS: Troops Arrest Suspected Gunrunner, Recover Arms In Taraba

Troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have apprehended a suspected gunrunner and recovered a cache of weapons during a swift intelligence-led operation in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to a statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade, Lt. Umar Muhammad, on Saturday night, the operation was carried out on February 12, 2026, following credible intelligence reports received by troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Wukari.

It was gathered that acting promptly on the information, the soldiers arrested a 48-year-old suspect, identified as Abubakar Ibrahim, a native of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The army disclosed that a search conducted during the operation led to the recovery of six PKT machine guns, two rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a cash sum of ₦170,000.

Also recovered were a Peugeot 504 vehicle, a Q Seven mobile phone, seven bottles and wraps of perfume, and two small containers of Vaseline.

The statement confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.

The interception, according to the Brigade, has thwarted attempts by criminal elements to proliferate illegal weapons within the state, reinforcing ongoing efforts to curb insecurity and enhance public safety.

Commander of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance, professionalism, and swift response.

He urged them to sustain the operational tempo in line with the mandate of the Chief of Army Staff.

The Commander also appreciated local residents for providing timely and credible intelligence that aided the success of the operation.

He called on members of the public to remain security conscious and continue supporting security agencies with actionable information.

“The Brigade remains resolute in its mandate to protect lives and property, and to restore lasting peace and stability across Taraba State,” he stated.
