The Lagos Waste Management Authority has launched an extensive cleanup of accumulated waste at Alaba Rago along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, aiming to restore environmental order in the bustling corridor.
In a statement released on Sunday, the 15th of February, 2026, the agency’s Managing Director, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, confirmed that specialised equipment and personnel have been deployed to dismantle illegal refuse dumps and enhance sanitation along the route.
Dr Gbadegesin further stated that the operation will extend to Okokomaiko and the median near Lagos State University, areas identified as priority zones requiring immediate environmental intervention.
He explained that the cleanup will systematically progress from Agric Bus Stop towards Mile 2, ensuring thorough waste removal across the entire corridor and mitigating public health risks linked to indiscriminate dumping.

Highlighting the broader scope of the initiative, Gbadegesin noted that the exercise is part of LAWMA’s comprehensive sanitation strategy, which encompasses continuous monitoring, stakeholder collaboration, public awareness campaigns, and stricter enforcement of waste management regulations.
The LAWMA chief urged residents, traders, and road users to follow approved waste disposal guidelines and actively support government efforts to maintain a cleaner, healthier Lagos.
