Zero Discrimination Day: Soludo Urges Nigerians To Treat All With Dignity

The wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has urged Nigerians to treat one another with dignity and respect, irrespective of beliefs, class, creed, or physical condition.

Speaking on Sunday, Match 1, to mark the 2026 “Zero Discrimination Day,” observed globally by UNAIDS, Soludo stressed that true love transcends differences and that respect is the foundation of human dignity.

“True love sees no differences, only hearts filled with compassion and a genuine desire to make others feel loved, valued, and respected,” she said. “Respect is the soul of human dignity. Discrimination, on the other hand, is a language of barbarism and hate.”

The Anambra First Lady, who founded the “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo” initiative, called on Nigerians to reject discriminatory practices in all forms.

She highlighted this year’s UNAIDS theme, “People first: Everyone can help by sustaining what works,” saying it urges governments, health care providers, employers, communities, and individuals to listen to the voices of people living with or affected by HIV, ensuring they do not feel “less than” because of their status.

UNAIDS noted that Zero Discrimination Day seeks to spotlight the ongoing stigma faced by people living with or at risk of HIV, which undermines access to health services, violates rights, and slows progress toward ending AIDS by 2030.
