The Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday adjourned the alleged terrorism trial of former Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son, Abdulaziz, to March 10, 2026.
The adjournment came following a request by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, who cited the need for additional time to review the case file thoroughly.
Oyedepo explained that the case was recently transferred from the Department of State Services to the Department of Public Prosecutions, requiring him to familiarise himself with the facts before proceeding.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Adedayo Adedeji, did not object to the request. However, he urged the court to consider striking out the case if the prosecution fails to commence trial on the next adjourned date, questioning the diligence of the prosecution in handling the matter.
Ruling on the application, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik granted the adjournment and directed the prosecution to open its case on March 10.
The case continues to attract public attention given Malami’s previous role as the nation’s chief law officer.
