Tinubu Swears in Olatunji Disu as Substantive IGP

President Bola Tinubu has officially sworn in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police (IGP) at a ceremony held at the Council Chambers, State House, Abuja.

Disu took the oath of office at 2:53 pm, following the reading of his citation by Abiodun Oladunjoye. The event was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, cabinet members, governors, senior security officials, and family members.

Immediately after Disu’s swearing-in, President Tinubu also administered the oaths of office to newly appointed commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) and the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC).

Among the appointees were Prof. Ngbea Gabriel (Benue) and Omoregie Idahagbon (Edo) for the FCSC, and Abubakar Wamakko (Sokoto), Sen. Marafa Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Waziri (Adamawa), Hadizatu Mustapha (Borno), Helen Bob (Bayelsa), and Oladele Gboyega (Osun) for the RMAFC.

Disu’s confirmation follows the unanimous endorsement of his appointment by the Nigeria Police Council earlier this week.

He had been serving as acting IGP since February 23, 2026, after the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The new IGP, 59, joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police.

Over his career, he has held key positions including Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos and Assistant Inspector-General in charge of the Special Protection Unit and the Force CID Annex.

He has also served under President Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State Governor, acting as Aide-de-Camp.

At his acting IGP decoration last week, President Tinubu tasked Disu with reforming the police, strengthening discipline, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, and restoring public confidence.

In response, Disu pledged to enforce zero tolerance for corruption and human rights abuses and to end the era of impunity within the Force.

The swearing-in ceremony preceded the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, marking the first such gathering of the year at the State House.
