The Police Service Commission has enlisted the Police Community Relations Committee as a key partner in the ongoing recruitment of 50,000 police constables, in a move aimed at strengthening transparency in the process.
Details of the decision were disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday, the 5th of March, 2026, by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs at the PSC Headquarters in Abuja.
Kalu explained that the arrangement was reached during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting convened by the commission in the Federal Capital Territory.
The development forms part of preparations for the next phase of the recruitment exercise, which involves the physical and credentials screening of shortlisted applicants.
The screening is scheduled to begin on Monday, the 9th of March, 2026, and will take place simultaneously at designated centres across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Hashimu Argungu, commended the PCRC for its longstanding commitment to supporting national security efforts.
He noted that members of the committee have consistently contributed personal resources toward security initiatives and encouraged them to extend the same commitment to the recruitment exercise.
“The Commission is resolutely poised to ensure that only the finest and most credible Nigerians wear the uniform of a police constable. An effective police force is built on the quality of its recruitment,” DIG Argungu stated.

“This is why we have called upon you, the PCRC, and other stakeholders to serve as the guardians of this process.”
Argungu urged PCRC state chairmen to collaborate with officials of the PSC, state employment and career departments, as well as the Nigeria Police Force State Intelligence Department, during the screening process.
Their responsibility includes confirming the indigene status of applicants and assessing their character in order to prevent individuals with questionable backgrounds from gaining entry into the police.
Speaking on behalf of the PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, the Deputy National President (North), Ambassador Wada Sadiq, thanked the commission for entrusting the committee with the responsibility.
He assured that the PCRC would fully support the exercise and work with other stakeholders to ensure that only qualified and credible Nigerians are recruited into the police force.
