NMDPRA Warns Nigerians Against Fake Recruitment Scam

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has debunked claims circulating online that it is carrying out a recruitment exercise, warning Nigerians to beware of fraudsters exploiting job seekers.

The agency, in a statement shared via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, said the false reports were being spread by fake recruitment syndicates with the sole aim of defrauding unsuspecting members of the public.

According to the NMDPRA, the impostors have been issuing counterfeit employment letters, advertising non-existent vacancies and making false job promises, while demanding large sums of money from applicants, particularly those facing economic hardship.

The authority stressed that it is not recruiting at any level and has not authorised any individual or group to conduct employment on its behalf.

It noted that any legitimate recruitment exercise, whenever it occurs, would strictly follow the rules and procedures guiding employment in the Nigerian Public Service.

“We wish to state categorically that the NMDPRA is not conducting any recruitment exercise at this time,” the statement said. “The agency is also not undertaking any form of employment across its services.”

The regulator urged Nigerians to disregard all unofficial recruitment adverts and advised the public to rely solely on its official communication channels for verified information.

It directed interested members of the public to its website and verified social media platforms for updates on its activities.

“For accurate and current information, members of the public should visit our official website at www.nmdpra.gov.ng and our verified pages on Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram,” the authority added.

NMDPRA further warned that beyond financial losses to victims, such fraudulent activities also tarnish the image of the agency.

It therefore called on the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious recruitment offers to the appropriate authorities.
