NCS Debunks Ongoing Fake Recruitment Exercise, CBT Shortlist Test

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has discredited a fake press release currently making the rounds on social media, which falsely claims that a Computer-Based Test (CBT) for its recruitment exercise is scheduled for July 2025.

In a statement obtained by First News correspondent on Sunday, the Assistant Comptroller of Customs National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada described the circulating document as fraudulent, misleading, and not from the Nigeria Customs Service.

The agency warned the public against engaging with the content or sharing it further.

“The attention of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has been drawn to a fake press release currently circulating on social media and other messaging platforms, falsely announcing the shortlist for a Computer-Based Test (CBT).

“The NCS wishes to categorically state that the said press release is fraudulent, misleading, and did not emanate from the Nigeria Customs Service.

“At no time did the Service issue any such announcement regarding a CBT slated to take place in July 2025,” the statement read.

The agency pointed out clear discrepancies in the format of the fake document, including an incorrect e-signature and a recruitment timeline that does not align with any of its legitimate processes.

“The fake statement contains several discrepancies, particularly in its formatting. The e-signature format differs from our official standard and the recruitment timeline mentioned shows a faulty structure that is not connected to any legitimate process,” the statement added.

The NCS urged Nigerians interested in the ongoing recruitment process to rely only on its official website, verified social media handles, and recognised national newspapers for accurate updates.

“Authentic information about NCS activities, including its ongoing recruitment exercises, will be published only on our official website, verified social media platforms, and recognised national newspapers.”

The agency also said it is working to trace the source of the fake information and warned that appropriate action will be taken against those found responsible.

“The Service is taking steps to trace the origin of this false information and will take appropriate action to hold those responsible accountable,” Maiwada stated.

He further reaffirmed the NCS’s commitment to transparency and integrity in all its processes: “We reaffirm our commitment to protecting the public from misinformation, ensuring all our processes uphold the highest standards of transparency and integrity.”

The NCS appreciated the vigilance of concerned citizens who flagged the fake release and reiterated that when the next phase of the recruitment process is ready, the public will be duly informed through the appropriate official channels.
