Students and teachers of a school in the Ogba area of Lagos narrowly avoided tragedy on Monday, March 9, after a four-storey building housing the institution collapsed shortly after the premises were evacuated.
The structure, which accommodated Yemco Nursery, Primary and Comprehensive College, caved in around noon at 11 Adudatu Street, behind County Hospital.
First Daily correspondent learnt that students and staff had been moved out of the building minutes before the incident occurred.
The collapse reportedly happened less than three minutes after the evacuation was completed, preventing what could have been a major disaster.

Witnesses in the area said the school building suddenly gave way around midday, sending debris crashing onto the street and causing panic among residents and passersby.
Emergency responders and security officials were seen at the scene shortly after the collapse, while onlookers gathered nearby as authorities assessed the situation.
As of press time, it remained unclear whether there were casualties or injuries, as officials were still conducting checks around the site.
