Peter Obi Donates N15m To Benin Nursing School

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has donated N15 million to the Philomena School of Nursing Sciences in Benin City, Edo State, as part of what he described as his continued commitment to strengthening critical sectors of national development.

Obi disclosed the visit and donation in a post shared Thursday on his official X account, noting that he was in Benin City on Tuesday, February 24, where he stopped at the nursing institution — one of the largest in the region.

According to him, the visit was not his first to the school. Over the years, he said, he has made it a personal responsibility to encourage staff and students across Nigeria who are pursuing excellence in healthcare and other essential fields.

“In continuation of my commitment to supporting critical sectors of development — healthcare, education, and poverty reduction — I visited Benin City,” Obi wrote.

“In further demonstration of this commitment to Philomena School of Nursing Sciences, and to support the school’s facilities as I have done previously, I donated the sum of fifteen million naira.”

The former Anambra State governor used the opportunity to call on governments at all levels and affluent Nigerians to invest more deliberately in what he described as the foundational pillars of development: security, healthcare, education and poverty reduction.

“These are the foundations upon which a just and prosperous society must stand,” he stated, reiterating his oft-repeated message that “A New Nigeria is POssible.”

For students and faculty at the nursing school, the donation is expected to bolster infrastructure and training resources in a sector that continues to grapple with funding gaps and increasing demand for skilled healthcare professionals.

Observers note that Obi’s intervention aligns with his long-standing advocacy for increased investment in human capital development, particularly in health and education, which he frequently describes as the backbone of national progress.
