President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday transmitted the 2026 statutory budget of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the Nigerian Senate for consideration and approval.
The letter conveying the budget proposal was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary, following a three-week recess for committee budget defence sessions.
Under Nigeria’s Constitution, the National Assembly exercises legislative authority over the FCT, making its approval of the FCTA budget a federal responsibility.
In the letter, Tinubu cited Section 299 of the Constitution, which vests legislative powers over the FCT in the National Assembly, as the basis for submitting the proposal.

The 2026 FCT budget focuses on healthcare services, job creation, youth empowerment, social welfare, education infrastructure, and increased agricultural productivity. The President said the spending plan aims to stimulate socio-economic development, improve residents’ welfare, and lift as many citizens as possible out of poverty.
The submission begins the legislative process, which will include scrutiny by relevant National Assembly committees before final approval by both chambers.
